Hermitage Free Admission Days

There are two ways to get into the Hermitage for free: on free-entry days for everyone (a few times a year) and through a concession for certain categories of visitor. Even for free entry you need to book a zero-cost ticket — online or at the box office on the day.

Free-entry days for everyone

Several times a year, admission to the permanent collections is free for any visitor. The most reliable annual dates are:

In some years other public holidays are added. The museum publishes the full list for each year; if a free day falls on the Monday closing day, it moves to the next open day. Free-entry promotions are usually not held during the busy summer months.

Third Thursday and concessions

You still need a booked zero-cost ticket and, where relevant, a document proving eligibility.

How to get a free ticket

  1. On the official website, choose a date and session and add the free/concession ticket.
  2. Or collect it at the box office on the day (bring your supporting document).
  3. At the entrance, show the QR code or ticket and your document if asked.

For paid options see tickets; for times see opening hours.
